PRICE

How much do your bins cost?
It depends on where you live. Please call 1-800-566-6392, extension 2 for a quote for your area.

Do you take C.O.D.?
No, but we do offer check-by-phone. Just like any other rental, we still require a credit card number to keep on file even if you use our check by phone service.

Why not? Since when did that become your policy?

If we are not able to meet the customer at the jobsite to collect the money, it puts us in a difficult situation because we still need to be able to drop the bin. We have not collected money at jobsites since June 1st, 2005.

Can I place an order online?
Yes. Click here. When you fill out the form and click “Place Order”, an alert is sent immediately to our dispatcher and customer service dept. You can also download a fax order form in English or Spanish. In either case, the order is not final until you receive a call from us to confirm.

TIME

How long can I keep the bin?
You can keep your Looney Bin for 1 week before we start charging for additional days. 3-yard containers cost $5 per day Monday through Saturday ($30 per week), and 10-yard, 20-yard, and 40-yard containers cost $10/day Monday through Saturday ($60 per week). Be careful! We do not automatically pick up your bin! It is your responsibility to call and schedule a pick up, and it is your responsibility to verify that it was picked up.

Does that price include an unlimited amount of swaps since I paid for a week?
No it does not. Our price is for one bin. If you fill it up and need us to dump it, then you would pay for another bin.

How soon can I get a bin?
If you call in the afternoon, we can usually get you a bin the next morning. If you call in the morning, we can usually get you a bin that afternoon. We appreciate having 24 hours notice, but we will always try to work with your time frame – it just depends on how busy we are.

MATERIALS

Can I put anything in it? What materials am I allowed to put in the bin?
You cannot put just anything in your bin. There are limitations as far as weight and hazardous material, and you have to make sure you get the right bin for the right job. Concrete, dirt, bricks, tile, and similar materials can ONLY go in a 10-yard bin. Never put that kind of material in a 3-yard container because we will not be able to pick it up, and we charge for the extra trip. If you’re getting rid of furniture or doors, or large quantities of trash, you should order at least a 20-yard bin. You could use a 10-yard bin, but the walls of the bin are only 2 feet high, so you run the risk of piling the trash too high, and we cannot safely pick up any bin that is overloaded. For a more detailed list of instructions, click here.

Can I put tree stumps in a Looney Bin?
Tree stumps are acceptable, but we charge extra because it requires special handling and heavy equipment to move them around. It’s best if you can break them down to less than 2 feet in diameter to avoid an extra charge.

What materials are considered hazardous? How can I properly dispose of them?
The following materials are hazardous: asbestos, treated wood (telephone poles and railroad ties), oil, paint, chemicals, propane tanks, batteries, fluorescent bulbs, etc. If you have paint cans where the paint is totally dry, then it is not hazardous. Tires are not hazardous, but they pose a problem at the landfill, so we charge an extra $15 per tire. What about treated wood, cured wood, railroad ties, and telephone poles?

As of January 2006, railroad ties need certification from a laboratory that they are California Non-Hazardous Material, and they need to be manifested. One lab that can perform the required tests is American Analytics in Chatsworth (818) 998-5547. There are 2 tests:

An “8270” tests for levels of pentachlorophenol as well as other organic compounds and costs $225.

A “ CAM metals” test looks for certain hazardous metals and costs $105.

Telephone poles are exempt from having to be tested until January 2007. They are accepted at class 3 landfills as long as the material is manifested.

In either case, you are better off leaving these materials out of your Looney Bin because of the considerable extra cost involved to process the manifest, separate the material, and dispose of it at the proper landfill. Besides the cost of the lab tests, we charge a minimum of $350 extra for treated wood.

What is considered inert?

Inert material includes dirt, concrete, rocks, sand, stucco, tile, bricks, blocks, asphalt, rebar, metal, etc.

What is considered non-inert?

Non-inert material includes grass, roots, sod, trash, drywall, wood, stucco with paper, asphalt shingles, plastic, greenwaste, etc.

SPACE

How much room do I need for the bin?
For a 40-yard container, our largest bin, you need approximately 60 feet in length, which is about 4 car lengths. The bin is 20 feet long, and our trucks are between 33 & 37 feet long. Also, the truck is 10 feet wide, so you need 12 feet in width to give the driver 1 foot on either side to maneuver.

How high can we fill the bins?

Never fill a bin higher than the side-walls. For 3-yard containers, the lids must close all the way.

Do I need a permit?
In most jurisdictions, you do need a permit if you want the bin placed in the street. If you decide to place the container in the street, go to your city’s Public Works website or online application. However, you do not need a permit if we drop the container on your property, but we require your signature in person or by fax to release us from any property damage. Be aware that having a bin that weighs 2 tons empty, and approximately 8 tons full can easily crack your driveway. Have plywood ready to help avoid any damage. It should be noted that, in regard to bin placement, convenience is secondary to safety. Our drivers will not drop a bin where it would potentially do harm to a person or property.

Is there a way to determine how many 10 yard bins I need to get rid of my driveway or concrete porch?
Use our volume calculator

WEIGHT

How many tons of debris can I put in my Looney Bin?
That depends on the size. We allow 6 tons in a 40-yard container, 3 tons in a 20-yard container, and only 800 pounds in a 3-yard container. For a 10-yard container, the amount of tonnage depends on the material – if you fill up with inert material you can load up to 11 tons, non-inert 3 tons.

How much weight does water add?
Water only weighs 8 lbs per gallon, so if we had a monsoon in California and your bin had 200 gallons of rain water inside, it would be less than a ton (~1600 lbs.)!

How can I determine how much my bin weighs?

There is no easy way to determine that. For dirt and concrete, one cubic yard weighs approximately one ton, so a 10-yard container weighs approximately 10 tons when loaded with inert material.

How much will I be charged if my bin is overweight?

An overweight charge is $52 per ton with the exception of inert loads in a 10-yard bin which is only $30 per ton. If a 3-yard bin is overweight, we will not pick it up, and you will have to lighten the load and pay an extra trip charge.

Do you recycle everything or just some things?

We specialize in recycling construction and demolition material such as wood, drywall, metal, concrete, asphalt, and dirt. We recycle over 75%! Material such as food waste and certain plastics cannot be recycled.

Do I get cash back when I put recyclable material in the bin?

We only offer rebates for bins that are 100% metal or 100% cardboard/paper. If a load is mixed, then the cost to process the material does not allow us to give you a rebate.
